The Patriot Games are part of Trump’s sweeping Freedom 250 initiative, which will also feature a massive Great American State Fair on the National Mall from June 25 through July 10, the largest fireworks display in history on Independence Day, and even a UFC fight at the White House on Flag Day.³
Left-Wing Outrage: Democrats Compare ‘Patriot Games’ to ‘Hunger Games’
Predictably, Democrats couldn’t help themselves. Within minutes of the announcement, leftist commentators began hysterically comparing Trump’s athletic showcase to the dystopian film series, The Hunger Games.
California Governor Gavin Newsom posted a clip from the movies, sarcastically writing, “May the odds be ever in your favor.”⁴ Illinois Governor JB Pritzker shared an image of President Snow, the authoritarian villain from the series.⁵
The official Democrat Party account piled on, quoting from the books: “And so it was decreed that, each year, the various districts of Panem would offer up, in tribute, one young man and woman to fight to the death in a pageant of honor, courage and sacrifice.”⁶
Even commentator Brian Tyler Cohen added, “We asked for affordable health care and Republicans are giving us the Hunger Games.”⁷
Here’s the truth: the Patriot Games are a voluntary sports competition celebrating America’s top youth athletes. The Hunger Games is a fictional death-match where children are forced to kill each other. Equating the two is a ridiculous stretch that proves how out of touch Democrats have become.
White House Fires Back: Democrats Can’t Handle Real Competition
The White House wasted no time pushing back. A statement on X perfectly summarized the absurdity: “Of course Democrats hate this — it doesn’t involve confused men stealing medals from women and calling it ‘equality.’ Celebrating elite young men and women who earn their recognition through hard work and talent is what real patriotism looks like.”⁸
This response highlights the real tension. Democrats are so invested in allowing biological men to dominate women’s sports that they cannot tolerate an event celebrating female athletes competing fairly. Trump’s vow that “no men will play in women’s sports” immediately exposed the Left’s weakest point on an issue where public opinion overwhelmingly disagrees with them.
Predictably, Democrats reacted with their standard tactic: hysterical accusations of authoritarianism and over-the-top dystopian comparisons. As the Washington Examiner noted, Democrats “so routinely cry wolf” about Trump that everything he does just “blends in with all the noise.”⁹ After years of calling everything he does fascist, no one takes their hyperbole seriously anymore.
Trump is now gearing up for the biggest birthday celebration in American history. He’s putting America’s most talented youth on display, organizing the grandest state fair ever, and planning fireworks that will light up the world. And yet, Democrats’ reaction? Compare it to a movie about kids killing each other.
In true Trump fashion, he’s already won this round before a single event has even taken place.
