President Trump just wiped out Biden’s extreme fuel standards — a move that instantly saves American households an estimated $109 billion. And judging by Buttigieg’s reaction, Democrats are not taking it well.
Pete Buttigieg’s Transportation Department didn’t just tighten fuel rules. They turbocharged them to levels automakers said were flat-out impossible.
The agency ordered efficiency hikes of 8% for 2024–25 vehicles and a jaw-dropping 10% for 2026. This was nearly seven times Trump’s earlier standard. Biden’s team then claimed automakers could magically reach 50.4 miles per gallon by 2031.
