Her announcement came on the heels of a brutal attack in Washington, D.C., where Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal allegedly murdered National Guard member Sarah Beckstrom and left Andrew Wolfe fighting for his life — just blocks from the White House.
The Migrant Biden Let In
Lakanwal arrived in the United States in September 2021 under Biden’s rushed Operation Allies Welcome — the same program the administration insisted involved “thorough vetting.” That promise collapsed instantly when the suspect’s background became clear.
He had previously worked with the CIA in Afghanistan, but after Biden’s chaotic retreat handed the country back to the Taliban, the administration pulled in nearly anyone who claimed they assisted American forces. Trump later granted asylum to Lakanwal after Biden’s team paroled him into the U.S. with minimal screening.
Now, one American family is preparing a funeral because Biden prioritized political optics over national security.
Noem: America’s Done Playing Host to the World’s Problems
Noem didn’t mince words as outrage mounted.
“Our forefathers built this nation on blood, sweat, and the unyielding love of freedom — not for foreign invaders to slaughter our heroes, suck dry our hard-earned tax dollars, or snatch the benefits owed to AMERICANS,” she said. “WE DON’T WANT THEM. NOT ONE.”
CNN later reported that Noem’s proposal boosts the travel-ban list from 19 countries to as many as 30 or even 32 — more than double current restrictions.
A DHS spokesperson confirmed the official list would be released “soon,” but the message to non-cooperative nations was unmistakable: if they won’t vet their citizens or accept deportees, they won’t be sending anyone here.
Biden’s Refugee Gamble Comes Crashing Down
For years, Democrats lectured Americans about “compassion,” all while opening the gates to massive numbers of unvetted migrants. Operation Allies Welcome shoved tens of thousands into the U.S. in a matter of weeks instead of the typical 18- to 24-month vetting process used for traditional refugee resettlement.
Back in 2021, GOP lawmakers warned exactly this would happen. Congressman Clay Higgins testified that “some of these individuals are being paroled into the interior of the United States, or they are even prematurely leaving military bases before undergoing proper and necessary vetting.”
But the Biden administration wouldn’t listen. Officials like Alejandro Mayorkas bragged that refugees went through “rigorous” security checks, with “biometric and biographic screenings conducted by intelligence, law enforcement, and counterterrorism professionals.”
Beckstrom’s murder exposed those claims as fiction.
Trump Tightens the Screws While Democrats Cry Foul
Following the attack, Trump halted all asylum decisions and ordered a review of more than 720,000 green-card holders from 19 “countries of concern.” The State Department stopped processing Afghan visas. And Noem wants the President to go even further.
Democrats are already dusting off their usual accusations — “racism,” “xenophobia,” and every other recycled insult in their playbook. None of it matters.
Trump’s stance is unambiguous.
“We must now re-examine every single alien who has entered our country from Afghanistan under Biden,” Trump said. “If they can’t love our country, we don’t want them.”
He didn’t stop there, noting that Somali migrants in Minnesota are “ripping apart that once-great state.”
Voters elected Trump to restore order, enforce the law, and stop the flood of dangerous foreign nationals. Noem’s plan helps him do exactly that.
A Travel Ban Built for Modern Threats
Countries that refuse to take back criminals or cooperate on terror-screening shouldn’t enjoy unrestricted travel to America. Trump has already designated drug cartels and MS-13 as Foreign Terrorist Organizations, giving national-security agencies powerful tools to shut down violent networks.
Expanding the travel-ban list — especially after an attack like this — closes the loopholes Biden recklessly blew open.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Trump is reviewing Noem’s recommendation to broaden the restrictions “to cover more countries around the globe.”
The current list, updated in June, already includes Afghanistan, Iran, Venezuela, and Haiti under a proclamation titled “Restricting the entry of foreign nationals to protect the United States from foreign terrorists and other national security and public security threats.”
Noem wants to add at least ten more.
A Preventable Loss — And a Promise Not to Repeat It
Democrats rolled out the welcome mat for the world without caring what it meant for American communities. Sarah Beckstrom lost her life because of those decisions.
Trump and Noem are making absolutely certain that Americans never pay that price again.
