Federal authorities are honing in on a potential suspect in the tragic death of 18-year-old Anna Kepner, a Florida teenager found dead earlier this month aboard a Carnival cruise ship. Sources familiar with the investigation told CBS News the primary focus has shifted to one of her stepsiblings.
Court records obtained by CBS News indicate Kepner’s family suspects her 16-year-old stepbrother is under scrutiny by the FBI. The agency declined to comment, stating it “does not provide operational updates except in rare instances.”
A law enforcement source added that there may have been a confrontation between the teen and her stepbrother.
Kepner was on a Caribbean vacation with her father, stepmother, and three stepsiblings when her body was discovered under the bed in her stateroom on the Carnival Horizon. The ship had been returning to Miami and docked on November 8. Law enforcement sources said it was a housekeeper who found her.
