Federal prosecutors have charged Dana Williamson, former chief of staff to California Governor Gavin Newsom, with multiple counts of public corruption, according to a newly unsealed federal indictment Wednesday.
Williamson, who left the governor’s office in December 2024, is accused alongside political operatives Greg Campbell and Sean McCluskie of conspiring to commit wire and bank fraud. Authorities say the trio faces a staggering 23 counts, 18 of which carry up to 20 years in prison and fines reaching $250,000 each.
She is scheduled to appear in federal court in Sacramento Wednesday afternoon. Williamson has not responded to requests for comment. McCluskie and Campbell could not be reached, and it remains unclear if they have retained attorneys.
Prosecutors allege that Williamson continued to exert influence over the scheme even after joining Newsom’s administration, allegedly transferring control to another co-conspirator while remaining involved behind the scenes.
