House Democrat Arrested in Stunning ICE Case

Several posts by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) on X regarding a May incident at the Delaney Hall immigrant detention center in Newark, New Jersey, have been removed following a court order. The posts criticized U.S. Representative LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.), who was charged with assaulting federal immigration officers during her visit to the facility. The order came from Biden-appointed U.S. District Judge Jamel Semper.

Rep. McIver, a Democrat representing New Jersey, faces serious federal charges stemming from the May visit. The indictment accuses her of physically striking and pushing a federal ICE officer while on official congressional business. McIver has pleaded not guilty, and if convicted, she could face up to 17 years in prison.

McIver’s legal team has argued that the charges are politically motivated and violate the Constitution’s Speech or Debate Clause. The representative insists her actions were part of her congressional duties, though video evidence shows her making contact with a federal officer.
