Massachusetts parents are in uproar after learning that a local middle school quietly handed out a 112-question “health survey” that probed students about everything from suicide to gender identity — then told parents not to talk about it.

A Secret Survey No One Was Supposed to See

At Thomas Blake Middle School in Medfield, administrators distributed the MetroWest Adolescent Health Survey in early November 2025. On paper, it was just another wellness survey. In reality, parents were blindsided by its content — and by the warning that they should keep the questionnaire secret.

The document included questions about sexual orientation, gender identity, climate change anxiety, and even whether adults in the home “physically abuse each other.”

Parents were instructed by Principal Nat Vaughn that while they could opt their child out, they were not allowed to share the survey itself. Vaughn said that discussing the questions “could influence student responses.”

That order lit the match.
