The post was meant to mock Trump’s previous lawsuit against CBS regarding Kamala Harris’s 2024 campaign interview — but Schumer’s attempt to score political points fell apart instantly.
The FCC fires back
Instead of sparking outrage against Trump, Schumer drew a brutal response from FCC Chairman Brendan Carr, who wasn’t about to let the Senate leader’s late-night stunt slide.
“Due to the Schumer Shutdown, even your frivolous filing could not be processed by the FCC,” Carr fired back on X.
“But seriously, you should end the Schumer Shutdown—which is imposing real pain on American families—rather than nonsense posting. You should open the government, rather than using Americans’ pain to pander to your far left flank.”
Carr’s jab landed hard. As Schumer was joking about TV edits, millions of Americans were living through the consequences of a 30-day-plus shutdown — now the longest ever recorded. Federal workers missed their first full paycheck, food benefits ran out for over 40 million citizens, and air traffic controllers continued working without pay as the holidays approached.
Democrats’ false comparison exposed
Schumer’s supposed “gotcha” also fell apart under scrutiny. The Trump campaign quickly noted that CBS had manipulated Kamala Harris’s 2024 interview to make her appear more coherent — then refused to release the unedited version until forced by public pressure. That deception led to a $16 million settlement and new transparency rules for future candidate interviews.
Trump’s own interview, however, was released in full — both the complete 73-minute cut and a transcript — the same day it aired. Editing for time is standard practice, not evidence of bias.
Even worse for Schumer, he has no legal standing to make any complaint at all. Trump’s lawsuit involved potential harm to his election prospects; Schumer simply didn’t like how a broadcast was formatted.
Republicans pile on the ridicule
The senator’s misstep immediately drew mockery from House Republicans.
“Maybe you should stop posting nonsense at 1:19 AM in the morning and open the government,” Congressman Mike Collins (R-GA) wrote.
Representative Tim Burchett (R-TN) added, “Why don’t you open the Government, quit trying to starve poor folks and help us fix the broken healthcare system you helped create.”
The hypocrisy comes full circle
The irony is stunning. Just months ago, Schumer blasted Brendan Carr for supposedly “weaponizing” the FCC after the agency probed CBS over the Harris interview. He even demanded Carr’s resignation, calling him “one of the greatest threats to free speech in American history.” Now, Schumer wants to use that same agency to punish CBS for airing Trump’s interview exactly as scheduled — while also releasing the full version online.
That’s not accountability. That’s hypocrisy wrapped in desperation.
Panic behind the post
The real story behind Schumer’s meltdown may be far bigger than an edited interview. His party is losing control of the narrative — and their shutdown strategy is unraveling fast. Unlike 2013 or 2018, Democrats can’t blame Republicans this time.
Even union groups that traditionally back the Left are turning against Schumer. The Federal Employees Union condemned his refusal to pass a clean funding resolution, and several Democrat senators — Jon Ossoff, Raphael Warnock, and John Fetterman — have already broken ranks to vote with Republicans on paying federal workers.
Meanwhile, Republicans continue offering a clean continuing resolution with no cuts, no additions — just a functioning government. Democrats, led by Schumer, keep saying no, demanding more funding for illegal immigrant healthcare and Obamacare subsidies.
The bottom line
As the shutdown drags on past Trump’s 2018 record and Democrats’ poll numbers nosedive, Schumer’s late-night “FCC threat” looks less like confidence and more like panic. While federal workers miss paychecks, the Senate’s top Democrat is rage-posting about TV edits at 1 a.m.
It’s the perfect symbol of today’s Democratic Party — obsessed with Trump, blind to reality, and willing to weaponize government power rather than govern responsibly.
And once again, it blew up right in Chuck Schumer’s face.
