In another stunning example of judicial activism, a Clinton-appointed federal judge has blocked President Trump’s push to require proof of U.S. citizenship on federal voter registration forms—an effort aimed at protecting the integrity of America’s elections.

U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly ruled that the Trump administration’s move to verify citizenship for federal voters was unconstitutional, claiming it “violated the separation of powers.” Her decision, cheered by far-left groups, effectively shields noncitizens from scrutiny and undermines ongoing efforts to secure the ballot box.
The ruling sparked outrage among conservatives who argue that Democrats are openly protecting a system that enables fraud and manipulation. For years, Trump and his allies have warned that the lack of citizenship verification opens the door for noncitizens and illegal immigrants to influence elections—an outcome that benefits Democrats and erodes trust in democracy.
Kollar-Kotelly’s decision came after progressive organizations sued the administration for “demanding that voters in U.S. elections are actually U.S. citizens.” The irony wasn’t lost on Americans who see such lawsuits as proof that Democrats are no longer hiding their reliance on broken election systems.
