As the federal shutdown drags into its fourth punishing week, tens of millions of Americans are staring down a nightmare scenario — their grocery cards about to run dry while Washington plays political games.
If Congress doesn’t strike a deal, 42 million U.S. citizens depending on SNAP (food stamp) benefits could lose access to basic necessities starting November 1. Shelves will empty, cupboards will go bare, and the people who actually paid into the system could be the first left out in the cold.

- Hard-working families in genuine need are about to be abandoned.
- Career welfare abusers are already threatening violence online, vowing to “take what they want” if their EBT cards stop working.
- And perhaps most explosive — illegal immigrants have been cashing in on benefits meant for Americans, despite laws that explicitly forbid it.
Federal law is crystal clear — but Democrats keep bending it
The 1996 welfare reform law made it plain: non-citizens and undocumented immigrants are not eligible for SNAP. Even the Biden-run USDA reiterated earlier this year, “SNAP is not and has never been available to undocumented non-citizens.”
