Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey’s administration is in full-blown crisis mode after one of her senior aides was arrested in what authorities describe as a massive drug-running operation. The shocking bust exposed a web of cocaine trafficking that reportedly reached deep into a state office building.
Law enforcement officers say LaMar Cook, a high-ranking Healey appointee, was caught with eight kilograms of cocaine intended for delivery straight into the Springfield State Office Building — the same place where Cook worked.
According to Hampden District Attorney Anthony Gulluni, the charges against Cook include trafficking more than 200 grams of cocaine, illegal possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition. But the real haul tied to the case is far larger — investigators have reportedly seized around 21 kilograms of cocaine in total.
Cook’s alleged criminal activity unraveled after a Tuesday traffic stop, just days following a “controlled delivery operation” in Springfield. Investigators say that sting operation involved multiple “bricks” of cocaine and was part of a broader investigation into a regional drug network.
