The semi slammed full-speed into the back of an SUV, sparking an explosive chain-reaction crash involving eight vehicles, including four other commercial trucks. Within seconds, cars were engulfed in flames. Three people were killed instantly, and four others were rushed to hospitals with severe injuries.
California Highway Patrol Officer Rodrigo Jimenez later confirmed what the video showed — Singh was high behind the wheel.
“He was transported to the hospital and evaluated by medical staff, and our officers determined he was driving under the influence of drugs,” Jimenez stated.
Among the victims were Clarence Nelson, a beloved former assistant basketball coach at Pomona High School, and his wife Lisa — ordinary Americans who had no idea their lives were about to be destroyed by a preventable act of government negligence.
This isn’t a one-off tragedy. It’s part of a growing pattern of deadly consequences from Biden and Newsom’s reckless policies.
In August, another illegal immigrant truck driver — Harjinder Singh, no relation — caused a catastrophic crash in Fort Pierce, Florida, killing three more people. That driver, who crossed the border illegally in 2018, somehow managed to obtain a California commercial driver’s license, even though he couldn’t read English or understand road signs.
When he made an illegal U-turn with his 18-wheeler, a minivan slammed into the trailer, killing everyone inside.
Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, serving under President Trump, has been sounding the alarm. He recently announced the withholding of $40 million in federal highway safety funds from California for ignoring basic English proficiency rules for truckers.
“California is the only state in the nation that refuses to ensure big rig drivers can read our road signs and communicate with law enforcement,” Duffy said. “This is a fundamental safety issue that impacts you and your family on America’s roads.”
The numbers prove his point. Since new federal standards took effect in June, California inspected 34,000 trucks — yet only one driver was cited for an English proficiency violation. Meanwhile, 23 other drivers flagged in other states were still allowed to operate freely in California.
Governor Gavin Newsom’s administration insists their truckers are safer than average, but that’s little comfort to families like the Nelsons — or 5-year-old Dalilah Coleman, who now lives with a traumatic brain injury and cerebral palsy after another illegal immigrant trucker, Partap Singh, crashed into her family’s car last year.
Dalilah should be in kindergarten, not learning to eat through a feeding tube.
The Department of Homeland Security has now confirmed that Jashanpreet Singh had no legal immigration status when he drove that deadly truck. ICE has placed a detainer on him, meaning he’ll be handed to federal custody after his state trial — assuming California doesn’t botch the prosecution first.
Singh faces multiple felony charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. But as many Americans are realizing, locking up one criminal doesn’t fix the broken system that allowed him to be here — and behind the wheel — in the first place.
The combination of Biden’s open-border agenda and Newsom’s sanctuary-state arrogance has created a deadly pipeline: unvetted foreign nationals with minimal training operating massive machinery on our highways.
Every time an American family hits the highway, they assume truck drivers can read road signs, obey the law, and stay sober. Under Biden’s border and Newsom’s licensing policies, that’s no longer guaranteed.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin said it plainly:
“A terrible tragedy” that happened because “reckless open border policies allowed an illegal alien to be released into the U.S.”
Florida’s Attorney General Ashley Moody has had enough. She’s suing California and Washington state for their roles in these preventable deaths, accusing both of “choosing to ignore federal standards and authorize illegal immigrants without proper training or the ability to read road signs to drive commercial motor vehicles.”
Until Democrats face real political consequences, the bloodshed won’t stop. Americans are dying because Biden and Newsom put illegal aliens ahead of citizen safety.
And as Singh’s haunting dashcam footage proves — when reckless policy meets 80,000 pounds of steel at highway speeds, someone always pays the price.
