“Three people, two bullets. Gilbert, Hitler and Pol Pot. Gilbert gets two bullets to the head,” Jones wrote.
The “Gilbert” he referred to was former Virginia House Speaker Todd Gilbert. And the blood-chilling part didn’t stop there.
When Coyner confronted Jones for his vile comments about Gilbert’s children, instead of walking it back, Jones made things even worse.
“Yes. I’ve told you this before. Only when people feel pain personally do they move on policy,” Jones replied.
That message wasn’t a slip of the tongue. It was calculated, cold, and said without hesitation. This is a man who wants to be Virginia’s top law enforcement officer — someone entrusted to protect families — yet he openly fantasized about innocent kids suffering to make a political point.
The outrage came fast and loud. Across the state, outrage spread like wildfire.
Governor Glenn Youngkin didn’t hold back during an interview on Fox & Friends.
“This is beyond disqualifying,” Youngkin said. “And that’s why the Democrats have to come together and figure out where their moral compass is, because they don’t have one right now… this is a ticket that, in fact, is allowing someone to stay on the ticket who wants children to die, and I can’t believe Virginians for a second will allow this to happen.”
Even Democrat gubernatorial candidate Abigail Spanberger — a party loyalist who rarely breaks ranks — publicly condemned the remarks.
“I spoke frankly with Jay about my disgust with what he said and texted,” Spanberger said in a statement. “I made clear to Jay that he must take full responsibility for his words.”
But notice what she didn’t say: she didn’t call for Jones to drop out. She didn’t demand accountability beyond a statement. And that silence says everything about the modern Democrat Party.
What makes this even more alarming is the pattern.
This is the same political party that has spent years claiming Republicans are a “threat to democracy,” while left-wing activists torch cities, threaten justices at their homes, and normalize mob intimidation.
And now they’re running a man who talks about murdering a Republican leader and watching his children suffer — and they’re keeping him on the ticket.
Jones eventually tried to clean up the mess with a PR apology tour, saying he was “embarrassed” and “ashamed.” But his opponent Jason Miyares wasn’t buying it.
“He was called out at the time when he texted this to a colleague… and he doubled down on it,” Miyares pointed out. “He’s trying to save his political career because he’s a politician.”
Miyares is right. Jones isn’t sorry for what he said. He’s sorry that it became public.
Perhaps the most disturbing element of this entire scandal is how casually Jones said it. This wasn’t during a shouting match on live TV or a heated debate.
This was a private conversation — a moment where he felt safe enough to let the mask slip completely.
And what came out wasn’t just political hatred. It was a willingness to justify harm to children as a political tool. That crosses a line no civilized society should tolerate.
Jones has now attempted to frame the backlash as part of a right-wing smear effort, claiming Miyares is “dropping smears through Trump-controlled media organizations.”
But there’s no “smear” here. These are his own words. His own texts. His own worldview — now exposed to the public.
The people of Virginia now face a clear and urgent question:
Do they want their top law enforcement official to be someone who daydreams about political enemies being executed and their children suffering?
Or will they reject the culture of political hatred the Democrat Party has allowed to fester?
If Democrats had any moral backbone left, they’d demand Jay Jones step aside. But their silence is deafening.
This scandal isn’t just about one man’s disgusting texts. It’s about a political party that preaches tolerance in public — and embraces cruelty when they think no one’s watching.

Jay Jones needs to be arrested and charged with threatening someone’s life regardless of who they are.
It is against the law to threaten someone and Jay Jones should be arrested and put in jail for his actions!
If the people in charge let Jay Jones slide on this and let him off the hook for threatening a persons life, then they are doing a big injustice to We The People in order to protect citizens and treat everyone equality!
