Prosecutors say that was a lie. Evidence shows Comey had, in fact, approved FBI personnel to leak information to the press under the cloak of anonymity.
Trump Responds: “So Terrible and So Corrupt”
Former President Trump wasted no time responding. Speaking with Fox News, he did not hold back.
“What they did was so terrible and so corrupt,” Trump said. “We had a great administration, though.”
Trump explained how Comey’s dishonesty harmed more than just one campaign.
“Comey placed a cloud over the entire nation, and actually, the Russia, Russia, Russia hoax made it very difficult,” Trump said. “It could have caused wars.”
He added a blunt assessment of the man who ran the FBI: “He is a very corrupt person. He was absolutely a terrible man for what this country stood for.”
Bondi and Patel Deliver a Message: No One is Untouchable
Attorney General Pam Bondi underscored what this indictment means for the Justice Department.
“No one is above the law. Today’s indictment reflects this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people,” Bondi posted on X.
Current FBI Director Kash Patel was even sharper, calling out the Bureau’s previous leadership for weaponizing law enforcement.
“For far too long, previous corrupt leadership and their enablers weaponized federal law enforcement, damaging once proud institutions and severely eroding public trust,” Patel wrote.
He added: “Nowhere was this politicization of law enforcement more blatant than during the Russiagate hoax, a disgraceful chapter in history we continue to investigate and expose.”
Durham Report Already Laid the Groundwork
This indictment didn’t come out of nowhere. John Durham’s special counsel report exposed how the FBI allowed itself to be manipulated by Hillary Clinton’s campaign in 2016.
Durham revealed that FBI leadership knew they were being used for political purposes, yet still pushed forward with the Trump probe. His report concluded that if the Bureau had properly vetted the Clinton-related intelligence, the investigation never would have opened in the first place.
In plain English: Comey’s FBI took opposition research from a political campaign and turned it into a federal investigation against a sitting President.
The Tables Have Turned
Mueller’s investigation ended in 2019 with zero evidence of Trump-Russia collusion. But by then, Comey’s actions had inflicted years of damage. Trump’s presidency operated under a cloud created by leaks, lies, and fabricated narratives.
Now, the man responsible faces his own reckoning. Comey’s arraignment is set for October 9 in Alexandria, Virginia — a trial that will drag FBI corruption into the open for the American people to witness.
And if Comey lied under oath about leaks, Americans are left to wonder: what else did he lie about?
Accountability At Last
For the first time, there is real accountability for the people who tried to undo a President through dirty tricks and political espionage. Trump’s warning about the “Deep State” has now turned into federal charges against one of its most powerful players.
Attorney General Bondi summed it up best: the DOJ will “follow the facts.” For Americans who lived through years of lies and weaponized government, those words may be the first real sign that justice is finally on the horizon.
