Felony Charges Handed Down in Virginia
On Thursday evening, a federal grand jury in Virginia returned indictments against Comey. The charges: making false statements to Congress under oath and obstructing a congressional investigation. Each offense could land the former FBI chief behind bars.
The indictment centers on a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing held September 30, 2020. When asked directly if he had “authorized someone else at the FBI to be an anonymous source in news reports” about the Trump probe, Comey flatly said no.
