Cubs Rookie Matt Shaw Targeted Over His Faithful Choice

Chicago Cubs rookie third baseman Matt Shaw chose to miss one game in order to attend the funeral of Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist assassinated earlier this month. In a sane world, honoring a friend’s life would never be controversial. But Mets broadcasters turned his choice into a public spectacle.

During Tuesday’s broadcast, Gary Cohen described Shaw’s absence as “weird.”

“Shaw had Cubs world in a tizzy this weekend when he was not here for the Cubs game with the Reds – a game they lost 1-0 and in which his lack of presence was felt,” Cohen said. “It was later revealed that he had been given permission to attend Charlie Kirk’s funeral.”
