The controversy surrounding late-night host Jimmy Kimmel took a major turn this week as two major broadcast groups drew a hard line. Nexstar Media Group, following the lead of Sinclair Broadcast Group, confirmed it will not bring Jimmy Kimmel Live! back to its ABC affiliate stations—despite ABC executives giving Kimmel the green light to return to the airwaves.
Both Nexstar and Sinclair are among the largest owners of ABC affiliates in the country. Nexstar controls 32 ABC stations, while Sinclair operates 30. Together, their refusal represents a major blow to ABC and Disney’s decision to put Kimmel back on the air just days after his shocking comments about the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
The uproar began after Kimmel made false claims about the tragic shooting of Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated earlier this month during an event at Utah Valley University.
