Bongino hinted the FBI is widening its search. “We’ll also be dropping a lot of paper, a lot of subpoenas out there, to take a look to see if there was any extended network,” he said.
One focus is on individuals who were physically present when Kirk was gunned down — including the TikTok user questioning Kirk when the attack happened. Investigators want to know if anyone in the crowd knew what was coming.
Charlie Kirk, just 31 years old, husband, father of two, and co-founder of Turning Point USA, was shot in the neck while speaking at Utah Valley University last Wednesday.
The suspect, 27-year-old Tyler Robinson, was arrested 33 hours later. He lived with a transgender boyfriend and, according to authorities, expressed open hatred for Kirk’s views in conversations with friends and family.
Bongino confirmed the FBI is reviewing whether the shooting’s timing was intentional since it happened as Kirk fielded a question about mass shootings involving transgender individuals.
“We’re investigating that,” Bongino said. “I don’t want to say conclusively right now if there was a connection or not. It’s not terribly uncommon for [Kirk] to get questions like that. However, we are looking into that.”
Family members told investigators Robinson had grown “more political” in recent years. One relative claimed his live-in boyfriend — now cooperating with authorities — may have pushed him further left.
“I think Tyler got a whole lot worse in the year they have been dating,” the relative told Fox News Digital. “They are big gamers, and obviously they have that group that influences them as well as others. But my gut tells me [the roommate] did more of the influencing.”
Even more disturbing, FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed Robinson sent a text before the shooting saying he had “an opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk — and he was going to do it because of his hatred for what Charlie stood for.”
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox called the suspect “deeply indoctrinated with leftist ideology,” though he wasn’t registered with any political party.
For now, the FBI says the search for answers — and possible accomplices — is far from over.
