Prosecutors say the attack was deliberate. Armed with a handgun, Bailey allegedly stormed the house, opened fire on his parents, and then shot at his brother and sister-in-law through a locked bedroom door. Miraculously, they escaped unharmed.
Bailey later told police he had zero regrets, chillingly stating: “I would do it again. I hate them.”
After the killings, Bailey fled the scene, sparking a massive overnight manhunt. The next morning, on June 19, police cornered the suspect near the St. George Mormon Temple and took him into custody without further incident.
Authorities slapped Bailey with a long list of charges: two counts of aggravated murder, attempted aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, and multiple weapons offenses.
The violence didn’t stop there. While behind bars in October 2024, Bailey allegedly assaulted two correctional officers, further cementing a reputation for chaos and brutality.
What makes this case even more alarming is its proximity to the assassination of Charlie Kirk. Just minutes from Bailey’s crime scene lived Tyler Robinson, accused of gunning down the conservative icon in what some fear was a politically motivated hit.
Investigators haven’t found a direct link between the two cases yet — but speculation is rampant.
Social media activity reviewed by authorities shows posts from multiple users appearing to hint at the Kirk assassination beforehand, suggesting Robinson may not have acted alone. Neighbors even reported seeing “out-of-state visitors” at Robinson’s home in the weeks before the murder, saying they gave off a “bad vibe.”
Utah law enforcement is now probing militant LGBTQ and transgender gun groups operating both in the state and online. One organization, Armed Queers of Salt Lake City — an openly militant socialist group — suddenly deleted its Instagram account on the very day of Kirk’s murder.
Robinson now sits in Utah County Jail on charges including aggravated murder and obstruction of justice. If convicted, he could face execution by firing squad.
Bailey, meanwhile, remains locked up at Purgatory Correctional Facility facing nine felony charges. Though pleading not guilty, Bailey has reportedly expressed a desire for the death penalty if convicted.
