From there, Allred believes Robinson quickly moved northeast across Campus Drive, a small two-lane road near the site of the shooting. That path led him directly to what would become a temporary refuge.

A Convenient Hideout
Just steps away sat an abandoned red-brick home currently under renovation. Allred explained: “It’s a home that isn’t being lived in at the moment.”
The vacant property offered cover from the initial police dragnet and, according to Allred, was where Robinson ditched the weapon. Authorities later confirmed they recovered a high-powered Mauser .30-06 bolt-action rifle from the site.
Allred added, “There was a construction worker that I think he must have bumped into. I’m sure the house is wide open.”
“It’s quite a nice property in a well-to-do neighborhood. The man then went into the home. We don’t know how long he was in there for, but at some point, he left and disappeared.”
The photographer admitted it remains unclear whether Robinson deliberately planned to use the house as a safehouse or stumbled upon it during his escape.
Tense Encounter With Police
Allred said that while he was photographing the property, his presence drew the attention of law enforcement.
“I was taking photos of the house and a local police lieutenant guarding the area approached me,” he recalled.
“He confirmed the subject had been there and told me to leave. There was no crime scene tape, but he seemed upset and wanted me to go, perhaps because they were still investigating the area.”
The Mystery of Robinson’s Getaway
While the hideout explains how Robinson temporarily eluded capture, it does not solve the mystery of how he later managed to make it home. Allred suspects Robinson had additional help waiting nearby.
“There’s been speculation that the shooter left on a motorcycle left near the house or was in a car,” Allred speculated.
Such possibilities raise questions about whether others may have assisted in Robinson’s escape.
A Scene That Shook a Community
For Allred, who has spent decades covering violence and tragedy, the atmosphere at the Kirk shooting site was unforgettable.
“I would say that it’s a very intense scene,” he told the Daily Mail.
“People are horrified. Most people that I’ve talked to have seen the video of the actual shooting, and they cannot believe it.”
The account underscores just how deeply the murder of the 31-year-old Turning Point USA founder has rattled communities across the country.
