His performance he now calls “dishonest”
Gladwell was referring to a 2022 MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference panel where he went along with the narrative that men should be allowed to compete against women.
Now, he’s openly saying he regrets it.
“I’m ashamed of my performance at that panel because I share your position 100 percent and I was cowed,” he confessed.
He even admitted that his support for trans athletes at the time wasn’t genuine.
“The idea of saying anything on this issue – I was, I believe in retrospect, in a dishonest way, I was objecting in a dishonest way,” Gladwell said.
Critics pounce on his timing
Not everyone bought Gladwell’s change of heart. MSNBC analyst Tim Miller accused him of simply flipping positions to match whatever was fashionable at the time.
“These guys weren’t cowed into anything they said the en vogue thing then and they are saying the en vogue thing now,” Miller posted on X.
Attorney Robert Freund mocked the author’s admission as nothing more than reputation management.
“I’m Malcolm Gladwell and I misrepresented what I really felt because I wanted to please people in the room,” Freund wrote. “But now I’m totally not doing that, even though I explicitly say I think everyone would agree with the other view now. Please believe me again.”
Others, however, saw the confession as a smoking gun that proved just how totalitarian the media climate has become.
“Like him or not, Malcolm Gladwell is one of the most influential and financially successful journalists of the last 30 years,” wrote Michael Shellenberger. “For him to say he was too scared to say men don’t belong in girls sports shows both how totalitarian the mainstream media is and how chicken s*** MSM journalists are.”
Why this matters more than Gladwell
Think about this for a second: Gladwell isn’t a corporate middle manager worried about his next paycheck. He’s a millionaire author with no boss.
And even he was too afraid to speak the truth that men don’t belong in women’s sports.
If someone at his level of independence was intimidated into silence, what chance do professors, journalists, or Fortune 500 executives have?
This is the real impact of woke intimidation: turning basic biology into a forbidden opinion.
The winds are shifting
Gladwell’s confession comes at a time when the tide is turning. Donald Trump has made defending women’s sports a top priority, and his decisive action after his return to the White House sent a powerful message that Americans are fed up with the madness.
Corporations are quietly scaling back their DEI programs. Liberal celebrities are walking away from the most extreme cultural battles. And now, even once-silent intellectuals are finding the courage to say out loud what millions of Americans already knew.
Gladwell’s bombshell isn’t just about one author’s regret. It exposes how many so-called “consensus” positions on gender were built on lies, fear, and cowardice.
The emperor has no clothes — and thanks to this confession, more people are finally pointing it out.
