President Donald Trump made headlines Monday after hosting a groundbreaking meeting at the White House with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and several top European leaders. The high-profile gathering marked yet another step in Trump’s ambitious effort to end the grinding conflict between Ukraine and Russia — a war that has stretched on for nearly four years.
Trump took to Truth Social to outline what unfolded behind closed doors.
“I had a very good meeting with distinguished guests, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, of Ukraine, President Emmanuel Macron, of France, President Alexander Stubb, of Finland, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, of Italy, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, of the United Kingdom, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Friedrich Merz, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, in the White House, which ended in a further meeting in the Oval Office,” Trump said.
According to Trump, one of the key issues discussed was a framework for security guarantees for Ukraine. These would be backed by European powers and coordinated with Washington. “Everyone is very happy about the possibility of PEACE for Russia/Ukraine,” Trump explained.
