President Donald Trump just took another step toward what could become the most significant breakthrough in years for Ukraine and Russia. On Monday, Trump hosted a historic gathering inside the White House that brought together Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky alongside top European leaders for one purpose: peace.
Trump Sets the Tone
In his own words, Trump laid out exactly what happened in the marathon session.
“I had a very good meeting with distinguished guests, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, of Ukraine, President Emmanuel Macron, of France, President Alexander Stubb, of Finland, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, of Italy, Prime Minister Keir Starmer, of the United Kingdom, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, Friedrich Merz, President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and Secretary General of NATO, Mark Rutte, in the White House, which ended in a further meeting in the Oval Office,” Trump explained on Truth Social.
According to Trump, the discussion focused heavily on “Security Guarantees for Ukraine,” with multiple European nations prepared to shoulder commitments in close coordination with the United States. Trump summarized the atmosphere by saying, “Everyone is very happy about the possibility of PEACE for Russia/Ukraine.”
