Rather than offering any substantive political thought, Comey leaned on Swift as a symbol of resistance against Trump. He reminded readers that Swift herself urged Americans not to re-elect Trump, saying: “She’s made clear that she sees Donald Trump for what he is. And last year, she urged Americans not to make the serious mistake of electing him.”
Comey then mocked Trump by comparing him to a jealous old man, writing that while Trump posts online about whether Swift is “still hot,” she continues “living her best life.”
Comey quoted Swift’s advice about trolls: “Think of your energy as if it’s expensive. Think of it as a luxury item. Not everyone can afford it.” He tied that into an article from left-wing Atlantic writer Arthur Brooks, arguing that being rude makes conservatives miserable — claiming viewers can “just watch Fox News” to see proof.
The obsession reached its peak when Comey recalled one of Swift’s old songs, quoting: “Why you gotta be so mean? … But the cycle ends right now, because you can’t lead me down that road.”
In the end, Comey’s rant read less like serious commentary and more like a diary entry from a middle-aged Swiftie. For a man who once wielded enormous power in Washington, his bizarre reliance on Taylor Swift to cope with Donald Trump speaks volumes.
Instead of offering real leadership, Comey now uses his Substack to vent his Trump obsession while idolizing a pop singer. His parting words summed it all up: “Thank you, Taylor Swift. Keep the faith.”
