Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell — long viewed as a thorn in former President Trump’s side — is now in the crosshairs of a criminal referral to the Department of Justice, with allegations that he misled Congress under oath over a ballooning $2.5 billion renovation of the central bank’s headquarters.
Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-FL), a rising firebrand in the House GOP, dropped the hammer in a scathing letter accusing Powell of lying during recent sworn testimony regarding the Federal Reserve’s controversial facelift of its Washington, D.C. headquarters, known as the Eccles Building.
“On June 25, 2025, Chairman Powell provided testimony under oath before the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs regarding the renovation of the Federal Reserve’s Eccles Building. In his statements, he made several materially false claims,” Luna’s office stated in the referral.
