At the Republican Party’s Lincoln Dinner on Friday in Iowa, former President Donald Trump joined other well-known Republicans, such as Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former Vice President Mike Pence. Potential presidential contenders were able to present their political platforms at this high-profile event in advance of the approaching 2024 election.
Former ambassador Nikki Haley, senator Tim Scott, renowned businessman and author Vivek Ramaswamy, former governor of Arkansas Asa Hutchinson, eminent political commentator Larry Elder, renowned Perry Johnson, astute governor of North Dakota Doug Burgum, influential Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, renowned businessman Ryan Binkley, and accomplished former Texas representative Will Hurd are among the prominent GOP candidates who are expected to make their voices heard.
Former President Donald Trump, who was the major focus of the event, entered the stage to thunderous cheers and a standing ovation.
In his speech, President Trump emphasized a number of poll findings that showed his significant advantage over Biden and his rivals for the Republican nomination in the upcoming primary. He singled out Governor DeSantis, which is noteworthy.
“In the newest Echelon poll of swing states, we’re trouncing Biden by 7 points,” Trump said.
“In the big new Premise poll, we’re beating Biden 43-39, while DeSantis is losing to Biden 33-38. In other polls, I’m leading Biden by 6, 7, 8, and 11 points, while DeSantis is losing to Biden in all cases. I wouldn’t take a chance on that one,” Trump added.
Particularly in the historically Democratic states of Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania—which hadn’t supported the Republican Party in more than three decades—Trump emphasized his strong track record in prior elections. He bragged about turning over 200 counties, including 31 in Iowa that had previously supported former President Barack Obama, with great success.
